Exclamation Lots Of Nagra 3 info -Please Read Here

In response to the number Of Threads/Post
being made Through Out the DSS/FTA Community
We have Put together this Thread To help you Understand
What N3 is And what You can Expect ..

Most of this Thread is Put together By Lots of Different
FTA Hobbyist - Members - Staff - DSS/FTA Community

"Credit and Thanks Goes To All The DSS/FTA Community"

List Of Bev Channels That Have switched to N3 -> (Bev TV Channels that have switched to Nagra 3)HERE

Q. What is Nagra 3?

A. Nagra 3, also referred to as N3 & Nag3 is the newest encryption system being implemented on DN & B3V.

Q. Why is Nagra 3 causing us problems?

A. Because all FTA use on DN & B3V uses an older system, Nagra 2. The coders know Nagra 2 like the back of their hand. Nagra 3 is new and needs to be mastered & broken. DN & B3V are switching things over to Nagra 3.

Q. What is the cardswap?

A. The cardswap is the effort by B3V & DN to switch out the access cards used by subscriber boxes. The cards they are replacing are nagra 2 cards and are being replaced with new Nagra3 cards, also referred to as the ROM240 (B3V), ROM241 (DN). The new DN cards are sometimes referred to as "G3" cards since G3 is on the front of them.

Q. FTA doesn't use cards, why is this affecting us?

A. Because the software used in your FTA box is likely modeled on the older card that uses Nagra 2. The coders have yet to break and understand how the new card using Nagra 3 works. Therefore they cannot write software (the BIN file) to work with Nagra 3 yet.

Q. How long until everything goes Nagra 3?

A. Exact dates are unknown. B3V completed its cardswap awhile back and is testing N3 only channels. Expect it to go completely dark aound the 1st of November if not before. DN has recently started its cardswap and will take significantly longer to complete. DN HD channels could go dark as soon as November sometime as indications are that they are swapping HD customers with N3 cards first.

Q. Will Nagra 3 be hacked?

A. Nothing can be promised but all past and current indicators are that yes, a hack of some sort will eventually surface. Do not expect to see or hear of it until the DN cardswap is complete. It also may or may not require you to use a Nagra 3 card in your FTA. This early on in the game it is educated guesses and speculation.

Q. Some of my B3V channels are missing, or I just have audio. What is wrong?

A. Odds are that those channels are using Nagra 3. Audio on many channels is not encrypted or is still using Nagra 2, that would be why you may have sound on HD channels but no picture. At this point there is nothing that can be done to get it back

Q. will i have to buy another receiver?

No you will not - just wait till after N3 and all info needed will be Posted

Q. How can I get True Free To Air??

A. With a 33'' dish or bigger - with a linear lnb and a motor to move the dish -
True Free To Air is free channels on all Sat's that's what all FTA STBS are made for

Well November is here and the N3 transition is in full swing on Bev. It's no surprise that Charlie is next and the channels May start dropping as early as this week. Starting with the least watched, or subscribed to, finishing up with the rest as the year comes to an end. While this is going to be a real bummer for some of you, most of you know how this works and are going to patiently wait out the storm. As the weeks come and channels drop, we will see people come in and spread, doom, gloom, and just plain confusion in regards to the channel loss. Rest assured that the coders are extremely confident in their abilities, but also know that the providers are not just gonna sit back and take it. Expect some fun and surprises if and when the first N3 fixes surface.

At this time no one knows how this is going to play out or what secrets N3 may hold. The coders seem to be chuckling at N3, but we will see if they really have the last laugh. I also ask the veterans here to go easy on the guy or gal who just bought their first FTA box yesterday and have no idea that the channels are going out now and what's in store for him or her. Don't jump on them and say "how can you not know what's going on idiot!!" just be patient and explain to them the transition at hand. If you don't have anything nice to post it's best not to reply.

End C/P
Thanks Wil - gigster
